Weekly Filet #174: Humans Need Not Apply. And more.
Dear all,
I'm currently considering a couple of improvements to the Weekly Filet (the new archive was the first one I implemented). If you have a minute or two, I'd like to hear from you. Just reply to this email and tell me what changes (or additions) would make the Weekly Filet even more enjoyable to you. Some possible talking points (but feel free to report anything!):
* What day and time would be best for you to receive the Weekly Filet?
* Would you enjoy more than one filet per week? One link per day?
* Would you like more guest curators? Whom? What kind of people?
* Would you pay for the Weekly Filet? How much? Why not?
Thanks in advance, greetings from the kitchen.
David

Automation of human work will be one of the defining issues of the coming ten, twenty years. We've entered a phase where robots not only replace physical work previously done by humans, but brain work. This brief 15 minute explainer video by CGP Grey does a great job putting the development in historical perspective – and points out why hardly anyone's job will be safe. Better watch it now before a robot does it for you.

Design whizkid and data obsessive Nicholas Felton has released his ninth annual Feltron Report. This time, he visualised his entire communication in 2013, both written and spoken. Beautiful, fascinating insights.

Ok, after reading this text, everyone will use the same politeness trick in their next smalltalk. It's a really good one, nobody will get hurt, so why not share it with everyone.

Quite likely the best thing I've read all year on the state of the internet today and the challenges it faces. «I'm tired of being scared of what the web is going go look like tomorrow. [...] How do we change this industry to make it wonderful again? How do we build an Internet we're not ashamed of?»
