Weekly Filet #179: Serial, All Killer, No Filler. And more.
1. Serial Podcast
Imagine a captivating crime series like «The Killing», but with a real story and only in audio. This is the first season of Serial, a new podcast by the makers of This American Life. The story of a murder case is told in episodes over the course of a whole season. It's only started two weeks ago and it's fantastic. The only downside: new episodes are released weekly, so no chance of binge-listening.
2. How Ebola Spread out of Control (Washington Post)
If you're looking for a piece that gives you the whole story of the current Ebola outbreak and what went wrong, look no further than this. Dense, well-written, with great illustrations.
3. Architecture photographs of the year revealed (Dezeen)
Love the swimming pool.
4. Cloudy With a Chance of War (Nautilus)
He figured out, before anyone else, how to predict the weather. Then, Lewis Fry Richardson applied his techniques to predicting wars. Interesting piece.
5. 15 Years Later, How The Blair Witch Project Tricked the World (Details)
It's 15 years since «The Blair Witch Project» was released. Set aside the fact that this makes me feel very old, I liked this retrospection on how ingeniously the team created mystery around the movie. They were one of the first to make use of the web as a way to spread rumors.
6. Depths of Montmarte (Reza Dinally)
As I'll be on holiday next week (so: no Weekly Filet), here's another recommendation that will last for two weeks. Reza Dinally, Swiss songwriter with an enviably beautiful beard, has released his debut album. If you use Spotify, you can find the entire record there.
Beta testing!
I'll be launching a new project soon and I can think of no better group of beta testers than you lot. So, if you're interested, drop me a line. The project is in German, so probably not that much fun if you don't speak the language, but of course, everyone is welcome to have a look.
Have a nice weekend!
