Weekly Filet #215: Just your average newsletter. And more.
Something new!
The archive of the Weekly Filet has more than 1000 recommended links and since most of those pieces age quite well, I thought it might be nice if they resurfaced automagically. That's what @weeklyfilet on Twitter is for. Old gems, shared twice a day. Follow along.
I wish you all a nice, sunny weekend. ☀️

1. In Defense of Being Average (Mark Manson)
«Mediocrity, as a goal, sucks. But mediocrity, as a result, is OK.» A thoughtful, comforting essay by Mark Manson, whom I've previously featured with «The Subtle Art of Not Giving a Fuck».
2. A Primer on the Greek Crisis: the things you need to know from the start until now (Anil Kashyap) & The Greek crisis: 9 questions you were too embarrassed to ask (Vox.com)
If you haven't followed every bit of the story, you probably find yourself asking «WTF is going on with Greece?!». I've tried to find the one piece to bring us back in the loop. Yet the most comprehensive ones both take sides on who's to blame (and they disagree), so I'm offering you both.
3. Your Best or Worst Summer Dates (The New York Times)
A nice interactive: People share the stories (and location) of their first dates in New York City. If anyone plans to do this for, um, Olten, give me a call.
4. The origin of leap seconds, and why they should be abolished (Quartz)
July 1st was one second longer than your average day. I didn't think the leap second could be turned into an interesting 10 minute read, but there, Quartz' David Yanofsky did just that.
5. Earth View (Google)
Sit back, relax and enjoy: a collection of the most beautiful and striking landscapes found in Google Earth.
