Weekly Filet #218: It's the end of capitalism as we know it. And more.
By the time you're reading this, I'm already on holiday in Norway. This means two things: 1. I'm having a great time. 2. No Weekly Filet in the two weeks to come. Here's what you can do about this dismal state: Browse the archive with more than 1100 recommendations. Or go check out Readthisthing.co, a newly launched platform to «find, share, and discuss fantastic journalism».

1. The end of capitalism has begun (The Guardian)
I can't remember ever seeing an article that had been shared so widely. And deservedly so.
2. Is This a Selfie? (The New York Times)
Case: settled. And this is how it came about: The NYT misuses the term «selfie» in an article, a reader complains and asks for a correction to be issued. The NYT lets him define «selfie» once and for all on its opinion pages.
3. Time flies (Maximilian Kiener)
Why is it that time seems to fly by faster the older you get? Nice visual explanation.
4. This is what happens after you die (Mosaic Science)
I think I found this more fascinating than I should have.
5. Guillaume Lachapelle’s Mirrored Dioramas Create the Illusion of Infinite Space (This Is Colossal)
Beautiful. Mesmerising.

This «histomap», made in 1931, is taken from a page in an old book. It's an amazingly intuitive way to view the flow of world history over the last 2,000 years. To read the small font, click the map (and then click again to enlarge) for a higher-res version.
July guest curator: Tim Urban, based in New York City, is the writer of what I like to call the world's best blog, Wait Buy Why. He writes absurdly long articles on complex issues and for some reason, they are always exceptionally good. Yes, I'm a fan. You can support Wait But Why so it never goes away and you should definitely follow WBW on Twitter.
